Honda Says It Will Bring Back the Civic Hybrid in 2024

Canada is seeing Honda create a Civic Hybrid for the first time since 2015. The fuel-guzzling Civic will go into production in the spring of next year; hatchbacks will be made in the US and sedans in Canada.

One of the earliest electric cars available was the Honda Civic Hybrid, which debuted here in 2002. Moreover, it had a typical appearance, in contrast to the Toyota Prius. Similar in general design to the hundreds of thousands of other Civic models currently in use, but with a changed grille, new wheels, and an antenna installed on the roof. It was even available with a five-speed shifter at the time.

Honda kept producing the Civic Hybrid for the eighth-generation vehicle from 2006 to 2011 and the ninth-generation vehicle from 2012 to 2015. However, North America no longer had the hybrid thanks to the 2016 Honda Civic. Honda replaced it with the Civic-based Insight, which was only offered with a hybrid drivetrain. In the spring of 2024, the 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid will go into production in Canada. Models with hatchbacks will arrive a little later. Both vehicles will employ a variant of Honda’s two-motor hybrid powertrain, which is also present in the Accord and CR-V.

This 2.0L four-cylinder engine powers the Accord Hybrid’s 181 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque. That or a 1.5L four-cylinder in lieu of the 2.0L type, similar to the old Insight, might be used in the new Civic Hybrid. There is probably considerable pressure to include all-wheel drive in the Civic since its primary rival, the Toyota Corolla Hybrid, has it. Honda stated that over 40% of Civic sales in North America are anticipated to come from the Civic Hybrid. Thus far this year, almost thirty-five percent of purchasers have chosen the hybrid versions of the CR-V and Accord.

In 2024, Honda will introduce its new Prologue electric vehicle to the Civic Hybrid lineup. According to the firm, by 2040, all new car sales will be entirely electric (powered by fuel cells or batteries).
